COURSES OFFERED:

Bogomolets National Medical University offers courses at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels in English, Russian and Ukrainian medium of instructions. International Students are offered courses in 3 Faculties.

    1. Faculty of General Medicine:

Undergraduate Course- MBBS/MD (Physician) Duration-6 years

The Medical course at Bogomolets National Medical University takes six years and leads to MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MBBS.
In the under graduate program, during six years of study the students learn different subjects from fundamental subjects disciplines to special medical subjects.
Admission to the medical faculty in Bogomolets National Medical University takes place after conclusion of a contract. Foreigners learn in group of eight to ten along with other international students. The second year students of Bogomolets National Medical University attend their clinical studies where they can gain experience in nursing the patients. Clinical subjects are taught beginning from the third year of study.
The medium of instruction in Bogomolets National Medical University in the Medical faculty is English and Russian language.

The state final examinations on all the disciplines according to the syllabus are held within one system through 2 stages:

— Testing practical proficiency of final-year students (when exams on clinical disciplines are taken, testing takes place at the patient’s bed).
— Testing scientific/theoretical proficiency.

The successful students who will complete study of six years, will be awarded medical degree after passing the state exams.
There is a wide range of specialization available in the public and private sectors in Bogomolets National Medical University, involving research, academic medicine, public health, clinical medicine and other areas. Specialties include Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychological Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Public Health, General Practice and many others. POST GRADUATE EDUCATION

Post graduate courses are offered for foreigners in many specialties at Bogomolets National Medical University. The faculty of postgraduate education offers the study in 55 medical specialties.

The duration of each course depends upon the decision of the candidate and time taken by him to complete the curriculum with required number of credit and experience hours.
Appropriate level of proficiency in Russian is mandatory for acquiring the practical skills and successful completion of the course. Most of the International Students join Clinical Residency after completion of their MD Physician course which generally is for 2-3 years.

The main objective of the postgraduate training is to allow the students of medical institutions to continue their education and general practitioners to improve their skills for further certification and faculty is directed at the training and improvement of qualification and skills of specialists to master not only up-to date medical information but new modern technologies of today and tomorrow.
The Medical faculty at Bogomolets National Medical University, together with its teaching clinical base of 135 hospitals and other health organizations in Ukraine and abroad, will provide the necessary physical and human resources to create a scholarly environment appropriate for the training of medical graduates so that they acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become accomplished physicians and surgeons with the highest moral and ethical standards.
The individual form of training is based on qualification characteristics, professional and position requirements, principles of realized perspective and doctor’s pretensions.
Detailed theoretical training is combined with learning practical skills, operative technique, and typical and complex operations.

    1. Faculty of Stomatology:

Course offered- Bachelor of dental sciences (BDS)
Duration- 5 years
Faculty of Stomatology/Dentistry at Bogomolets National Medical University offers undergraduate course which for 5 years. The course is offered in Russian, Ukrainian and English.

Dentistry is the division of medicine that studies the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of conditions and disorders in the oral cavity and other associated structures, and their effect on the human body. Good dental health is considered vital for the overall health of humans.
Dentists have supporting teams that comprise of dental assistants, technicians, assistants and therapists.
Traces of dentistry can be seen as early as 7000 BC in the Indus Valley Civilization. Over the centuries, dental treatments have been use to solve various ailments. The practice is evident in a lot of ancient cultures including those of India, Japan, Egypt and Greece. Today, dentistry has become increasingly popular and is a vital part of every health care institute.
Dentistry as a medical field is developing and rapidly changing. It now even involves cosmetology and implantology.
The awareness of people is increasing and so is the importance of dental care and hygiene. Dentists give medical, surgical and other treatments for all kinds of dental disorders. The most common procedures performed by dentists are crowning, filling, scaling, extracting teeth, tooth replacements and treating gum diseases.
Dentists can practice privately or find employment in hospitals or other health care establishments. A large majority of dentists worldwide are solo practitioners or own clinics with partners.
This course teaches subjects like Physiological Sciences, Foundations of Dental Practice, Dental Biochemistry, Oral Anatomy & Histology, Topics in Clinical Dentistry, Dentistry (Endodontic, Prosthetics, and Operative), and Advanced Topics in Clinical Dentistry, Dental Clinical Practice, Medicine and Surgery for Dental Practice, Dental Public Health and Special Needs Dentistry.

About the course

The course in Bogomolets National Medical University aims at preparing students for the industry by equipping them with all the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It will increase the number and quality of trained professionals that are an important part of all heath care organizations and institutes.At the dentistry faculty the curriculum is worked out for five academic years. The students master the basic subjects of medical and biological profile, as well as various clinical disciplines, which are so necessary for a dentist. On condition of successful completion of study the graduates are given the Diploma of a doctor — dentist. The curriculum foresees the further postgraduate education. The degree awarded is BDS.
For the junior courses students study theoretical disciplines and beginning from the fourth course, they start studying clinical disciplines. At junior courses students study theoretical disciplines and, beginning from the fourth course, they start studying clinical disciplines. Among them there are therapeutic and orthopedic stomatology. The chairs of anatomy, histology, normal physiology, biochemistry, general chemistry, having wonderful traditions in organization of educational process and high skilled teachers, could do profiles for the teaching of their disciplines, taking into account the faculty’s specificity. For mastering the propaedeutic course by students the departments were well equipped additional premises, acquired a necessary quantity of visual aids and special apparatus. All employees of the chairs and students took an active part in making the educational manuals. A metal-ceramic laboratory and a laboratory for high frequency melting and casting of dentures are specially organised.
At special dental departments the students study principal actual problems of dentistry: caries, parodonthosis, diseases of the mucous membrane in the mouth cavity. The principle task of the dental faculty is perfection of higher dentistry education, raising the quality of doctors dental training.
At the faculty they worked out and applied the complex of methodical ways for optimization of educational process, which is aimed at activisation of cognitive activity of students, development of habits for educational and researching work, training the creative method of approach for professional activity. The stomatological faculty helps the students to obtain good knowledge in the dental field. It grows and develops, absorbing all the best from the experience of the University’s work.

The course in Pharmacy offered O.O Bogomolets National Medical University is designed for students who would like to specialize and be trained in the effective use of medicinal drugs. Pharmaceutical studies involve the study of chemical sciences together with health sciences. It helps ensure safe use and administration of pharmaceutical drugs. Practicing pharmacy includes modern roles in health care and clinical services as well as reviewing drugs for more traditional services like dispensing and compounding medication.

The knowledge and skills, acquired during study at clinical and theoretical departments, are consolidated by the students during practical training, which is held in winter and in summer. The bases of practical training are over 200 most powerful medical preventive establishments in c. Kyiv, Stomatological medical center at O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University, 10 sanitary epidemic stations, 4 pharmaceutical plants, 7 pharmaceutical unions with tens of pharmacy stocks. About five thousands students in average pass through the practical raining every year. The practice is managed by more than 280 experienced teachers of the university, which have the higher medical category and employees from practical health care with the corresponding qualifications – at training bases. The organization of practical training is the complex mechanism, which includes the work on selection of training bases, submission of the corresponding documents in order to execute the orders for Chief administration of health care in c. Kyiv, pharmaceutical unions and city sanitary epidemiological service about distribution of students and teachers among practical training bases, establishment of orders on practical training for the University, provision of teachers and students with the corresponding accompanying and methodical materials, taking the differentiated credit on practical training, liquidation of failed exams if a student did not pass through the whole practical training or its certain cycles due to valid reason.
It is necessary to organize and to carry out the medical examinations of students and bacteriological examination for students to receive the access to practical training at medical establishments with special ant epidemic mode (maternity hospitals and departments, surgical hospitals). The dean’s office on practical training carries out the appropriate work on support of contacts with practical health care establishments in different regions of Ukraine, Chief administration of health care in c. Kyiv, management of pharmaceutical unions and plants in order to provide with timely practical training and to receive the operative information directly from training bases.
The corresponding documents, in particular the lists of students and practical training program is sent during the established period, as a rule not later than 1 month until start of training, to the chief doctors and directors of the establishments, which are the practical training bases. The dean’s office organizes the acquaintance of training supervisors with training bases during ten days until start of training. The site meetings about procedure and peculiarities for fulfillment of practical training at present moment, running current and reporting documentation are held with students’ activists and teachers, sent to manage the training.
The students-foreigners, representatives of fifty-seven countries, also pass through practical training. The experienced teachers, who fluently speak English and know the medical terminology in English, are assigned to manage the practical training of the students with English speaking study form.
The dean’s office on practical training performs the control for fulfillment of training, and after its finish – for taking the differentiated credit and liquidation of failed exams.
Thanks to annual practical training, which starts since the first year of study, at senior courses the students already have such experience of practical work, which allows them orienting in clinical situations, in establishment of correct diagnosis, prescription of the corresponding treatment, rendering the first aid, making the medicines due to the individual prescription, knowledge of clinical pharmacy, chemist’s and industrial technology for production of drugs. The practical training helps the students to adapt to the future working place, impart practical skills in the collective, performance of rules and ethics and deontology.

Peculiarities of practical training at medical faculties due to specialties “medical care”, “pediatrics”, “medical preventive care”.

The practical training at the 2nd and 3rd courses is the component in organization of teaching process due to the credit modular system and is held as an individual module within spring-summer semester.
At the second course the students of medical faculties pass through practical training on care for patients (5 credits, 150 hours) during IV semester and in-patient departments of therapeutic, surgical and pediatric specialization at clinical bases of department. The students consolidate the skills and abilities on care for adult patients and children within the duties of junior medical nurse.
At the third course the students pass through practical training of medical nurses (4 credits, 120 hours) during VI semester at in-patient departments of therapeutic, surgical and pediatric specialization at clinical bases of department. The students consolidate their skills and abilities within professional duties of middle medical staff, including mastering the technology on fulfillment of subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravascular stream and drop-by-drop introduction of drugs. The important aspect of the work is devoted to mastery of methods on rendering first care to adult patients and children.
The practical training at the 4th and 5th courses of medical faculties is organized since 2010. Such training is held in summer during 4 weeks (6 credits, 180 hours) at medical practical health care establishments in c. Kyiv.
The students, who come from other cities and villages of Ukraine, if the corresponding documents are available, are provided with the possibility to pass through practical training at health care establishments at the place for residence of their parents.
All kinds of practical training are provided by the appropriate methodical materials, curriculum, list of practical skills, examples to run dairies, etc.

Peculiarities of practical training at the Dentistry Faculty

The curricula for specialists in “Dentistry”, approved by the Orders from MHC of Ukraine, anticipate 210 hours (7 credits) at the 2nd and 3rd courses, 288 hours – at the 4 th course and 108 hours – at the 5th course for practical training.
After the second course the students of the Dentistry faculty pass through practical training, consolidating the skills and abilities on care for patients at therapeutic/surgical and stomatological departments within the duties of junior medical staff and medical nurse.
Starting since the third course, the students of stomatological faculty pass through medical practical training: after the third course – on therapeutic stomatology and prevention of dental diseases, after the fourth course – on therapeutic, surgical and orthopedic stomatology; at the fifth course the students pass through practical training on children’s stomatology, which consists of cycles.

The Kyiv medical University has its own hostel accommodation for all its students. The student dormitory enables students access to a lot of facilities automatically. The hostel becomes second home for the students in a matter of few days where students from all over the world come, live, study and interact.

SAINT SOPHIA’S CATHEDRAL

Saint Sophia’s Cathedral is an outstanding complex; work started on it in 1037 and lasted for just three years. As the architectural monument has had only a few reconstructions, you can marvel at the Byzantine cathedral in close to its original form. In addition, as it is located at the intersection of the four leading roads in Kiev, climb to the cathedral’s bell tower and you’ll be rewarded with a magnificent view from the top.

Mikhail Bulgakov Museum

The literary and memorial museum is devoted to the famous writer Mikhail Bulgakov, who was born in Kiev. From 1906 to 1919, he lived in this house while writing his book The White Guard. Bulgakov included the building and land next to it and the internal layout of the house is exactly the same as described in his novel.

National Art Museum of Ukraine

The exposition of the National Art Museum of Ukraine includes masterpieces of Ukrainian paintings and sculpture, dating back to the times of Kievan Rus (the federation of East Slavic tribes from the 9th to 13th centuries). The museum currently has about 40,000 exhibits and has one of the richest collections of ancient iconostases in Ukraine.

Kiev Pechersk Lavra monastery

This place has a long history, which began in the 11th century. Kiev Pechersk Lavra is an Orthodox monastery, one of the earliest and most significant monasteries of Kievan Rus. Being famous for its ancient churches, beautiful territory and network of catacombs, the complex has served as a calling card of Kiev for many years.

Mariyinsky Palace

This beautiful palace, formerly known as Tsarskoe, is located next to the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) building and is the ceremonial residence of the President of Ukraine. The Mariyinsky Palace was built in 1744 by the Italian Baroque architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Today, it hosts various events of national importance such as receptions, summits and awards, as well as meetings of official delegates from all over the world.

Botanical garden and the greenhouse

The Botanical Garden is a part of the natural reserve fund of Ukraine. In addition to the rich flora, it’s well worth seeing the Trinity Monastery of St. Jonas, located on the garden, with ancient murals from the 19th century. There is also a beautiful greenhouse complex that has various kinds of tropical flowers, cacti, succulents and palm trees.
